How Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Patients Use Marijuana

Source: Survey of cannabis use in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

This 2004 survey was the first ever to ask patients who were suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis about their marijuana use. Although only 13 of the 131 people surveyed reported using marijuana, the results were still able to give researchers a few important insights. Patients who used marijuana said that it helped them relieve pain, appetite loss, drooling, spasticity, and depression. Interestingly, patients reported that that the symptom which marijuana helped with for the longest period of time (about 2 to 3 hours) was depression.
