Researchers in this 2006 study took a look at using cannabidiol (CBD) to treat the damaging and toxic effects of diabetic retinopathy. CBD was found to have a positive therapeutic effect on every aspect of diabetic retinopathy retinopathy. It was able to reduce neurotoxicity, inflammation, and the breakdown of the blood-retinal barrier. It must be noted that the authors used diabetic rats, not humans. Nevertheless, the findings are extremely promising.
